How the Workshop is Conducted
Pre -Workshop
Orientation - A short video or printed material is provided to demonstrate
the various models and stimulate interest among prospective participants or class teachers
Selection - Participants or class teachers select which model(s) will be
constructed
v The request for custom
models or modifictions of existing models are made at this time.
v Models can be modified to
resemble the school's mascot or specific school and/or sponsoring oraganization names
can be imprinted on the model(s).
Preparation - Altanta Puppet prepares patterns for model(s) selected
and includes all modifications
Scheduling - A schedule is made up for one day, one week, or over a longer
time frame.

Schools, YMCAs, and cultural centers in the Atlanta Metro area can choose to have
the workshop conducted in 1 hour sessions - 1 or 2 days a week - for several weeks as an
after-school program.

residency program can be scheduled to take place over a period of 1 or several weeks where
multiple classes attend each day to construct 1 or several different models

Entire day schedules can be made for summer camps
Workshop
Phase 1 - Atlanta Puppet arrives at site with all materials for workshop in
form of kits as well as examples of completed model(s) to be used as example
Phase 2 - Examples are given of design, detail, and colors that can be
applied during assembly. Participants make choices and execute design and coloration for
their own individual model.
Phase 3 - Educational information is given on cutting,
scoring, folding, properties of construction material used, and effective use of
adhesives. Practice sheets are provided for participants to refine their cutting skills
with scissors.
Phase 4 - Participants begin cutting of all parts.
Phase 5 - Educational information is given on the particular
mechanical element that is used in the model - how it works as well as terms used for
motion and mathematical principles employed.
Phase 6 - Assembly of completed cut parts begins. Instruction given for
construction of model is provided.
Phase 7 - Construction continues and refinements made to insure proper
working of mechanics of model. Participants are given opportunites for further
modification of model.
Note: During Phases 4, 6, and 7 Atlanta Puppet will
provide low volume recorded background instrumental music. This music aids in setting a
pace and constructive atmosphere for the workshop. It also helps the participants
concentrate quietly on their individual task.
Completed Model and Review
Construction completed on all models. Opportunites for display and demonstration of
model are provided.
Review of completed model is conducted to strengthen educational components learned
and solicit suggestions for future improvements and modifications of model.
Participants take completed models home.
